पंजाब में पेट्रोल 6 रुपए सस्ता हो सकता है। कैप्टन सरकार पेट्रोल पर हरियाणा चंडीगढ़ के बराबर वैट करने की तैयारी में है। 37.5 फीसदी वैट होने से पंजाब में पेट्रोल हरियाणा चंडीगढ़ के मुकाबले में 6 रुपए लीटर महंगा है। हरियाणा चंडीगढ़ में पेट्रोल पर वैट 26.25 फीसदी है। सरकार के उच्च पदस्थ सूत्रों के मुताबिक दूसरे राज्यों के साथ लगते जिलों के 500 से ज्यादा पंपों खासकर मालवा में हरियाणा के सिरसा जिले से होने वाली पेट्रोल की तस्करी से सरकार को सालाना 250 करोड़ से ज्यादा रेवेन्यू लॉस हो रहा है। इस लॉस को रोकने और सूबे में सेल बढ़ाने के लिए जून के बजट सेशन में वैट दर हरियाणा चंडीगढ़ के बराबर करने की तैयारी है। एक्साइज महकमे ने तो इस पर एक्सरसाइज भी शुरू कर दी है। इससे पहले अकाली-भाजपा सरकार के समय भी उत्तरी राज्यों में पेट्रोल-डीजल पर वैट की दरें बराबर करने लिए कई मीटिंग हुईं। डीजल के रेट तो बराबर हुए, लेकिन पेट्रोल पर फैसला नहीं हो पाया।
