अपने विवादित बयानों को लेकर अकसर चर्चा में रहने वाले भाजपा विधायक सुरेंद्र सिंह ने बलात्कार की बढ़ती घटनाओं के लिए युवक-युवतियों के अभिभावकों को जिम्मेदार ठहराते हुए युवाओं के स्वच्छंद व्यवहार पर रोक लगाने की जरूरत बताई। बैरिया क्षेत्र से भाजपा विधायक सिंह ने संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में कहा कि समाज में आई बलात्कार जैसी विकृति के लिए अभिभावक जिम्मेदार हैं, क्योंकि वह अपने बच्चे और बच्चियों का संरक्षण नहीं करते।
उन्होंने कहा कि 15 वर्ष तक के बच्चों और बच्चियों की विशेष निगरानी होनी चाहिए। अपने बच्चों का संरक्षण करना अभिभावकों का धर्म होता है, लेकिन वह अपने धर्म का पालन नहीं कर रहे। वे जवान लड़कों और लड़कियों को स्वच्छंद रूप से व्यवहार करने और विचरण के लिए छोड़ रहे हैं। यह स्वेच्छाचारी स्वभाव ठीक नहीं है और यही इस सामाजिक विकृति का प्रमुख कारण है।
सिंह ने कहा कि अभिभावकों को अपने बच्चों और बच्चियों को स्वच्छंद विचरण की स्वतंत्रता नहीं देनी चाहिए। भाजपा विधायक ने युवा लड़के और लड़कियों के मोबाइल फोन के इस्तेमाल का भी विरोध किया।
